The national-level observance of World AIDS Day 2025 in India will be led by J P Nadda, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on 1 December 2025.

The event, organised by National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), will bring together government officials, development partners, youth representatives, community advocates, people living with HIV (PLHIV), and frontline health workers — reflecting a comprehensive, inclusive approach to India’s ongoing response to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and stigma elimination.

As part of the observance, a youth-led flash performance and a special live musical performance are scheduled, along with the inauguration of a thematic exhibition showcasing digital innovations, programme achievements, and community-led models implemented under the current phase of the national programme.

The observance will also see the launch of a new campaign video series under NACO’s national multimedia initiative, focused on three core pillars: Youth & Awareness; Elimination of Vertical Transmission; and Stigma & Discrimination. In addition, several key national programme resources will be released — including the 7th edition of “Sankalak,” the 2025 India HIV Estimates, a Research Compendium, and a new IT-enabled virtual intervention landing page.

India has registered significant progress under the current phase of control efforts: between 2010 and 2024, annual new HIV infections fell by 48.7%, AIDS-related deaths dropped by 81.4%, and mother-to-child HIV transmissions came down by 74.6%.

To date, HIV testing has increased from 4.13 crore in 2020–21 to 6.62 crore in 2024–25, while antiretroviral treatment access has expanded — rising from 14.94 lakh to 18.60 lakh PLHIV; viral load testing nearly doubled in the same period.

The upcoming observance underscores the government’s priority to accelerate India’s journey toward ending AIDS as a public health threat — combining policy commitment, community engagement, digital innovation, and coordinated action across stakeholders.
