Union Minister Anupriya Patel Launches NBEMS Online AI Training To Enhance Clinical & Diagnostic Skills Of 50,000 Doctors

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel launched a nationwide online training programme on artificial intelligence designed to build digital capabilities among medical professionals.

The course, developed by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) under the Health Ministry, targets nearly 50,000 doctors and focuses on AI’s practical applications in clinical practice, diagnostic support, decision-making, research and medical education.

The programme responds to rapid technological change in healthcare and seeks to equip practising clinicians with the foundational understanding needed to incorporate AI-based tools into everyday care and academic settings. More than 42,000 doctors have registered for the initiative, signaling strong uptake among the medical community.

The training has been positioned as a part of broader efforts to shift Indian healthcare from a reactive model toward more proactive and preventive care, particularly given the high burden of non-communicable diseases and challenges such as tuberculosis. Integrating AI into clinical workflows is expected to enhance efficiency and support clinicians in managing growing patient loads and workforce gaps.

The programme also aligns with India’s larger digital health strategy, with a focus on building capacity, promoting responsible use of emerging technologies and safeguarding ethical, accountable and accessible adoption. Health Ministry leadership has described the initiative as a significant step toward modernising medical education and strengthening the nation’s healthcare delivery systems.

NBEMS, which created the course, said the training reflects its commitment to modernising medical education and advancing professional competencies across the health sector. Senior health officials and experts in medicine and health technology participated in the launch event, underscoring the collaborative push toward tech-enabled care.
