Telangana to Screen 46 Lakh SHG Women with 30 Diagnostic Tests

Women’s Day initiative under the state’s 99-day health action plan aims to identify metabolic disorders, diabetes and hypertension early.

As many as 46 lakh women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across Telangana will undergo 30 diagnostic tests for health profiling starting March 8, as part of a state government initiative marking International Women’s Day.
The programme is being implemented under the Telangana government’s 99-day action plan, which will run from March 6 to June 12. The initiative focuses on identifying rising cases of metabolic disorders, diabetes and hypertension among women.
State Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha said the screening programme will be conducted without disrupting routine hospital services.
30 diagnostic tests through T-Diagnostics
Under the programme, every participating woman will undergo 30 different medical tests through the T-Diagnostics network. The screening will be implemented in three phases:
Phase 1: Screening will begin in five mandals in each district.
Phase 2: The programme will then expand to an additional ten mandals per district.
Phase 3: The final phase will cover all remaining mandals across the state.
Officials have been instructed to complete the screening of all 46 lakh women within six months while ensuring that hospital services continue as usual.
99-day four-phase health action plan
The Health Department has outlined a four-phase strategy to strengthen public healthcare services across the state.
Phase 1: Maternal & Child Care (March 6 – March 31) This phase will focus on adolescent girls, pregnant women and the elderly. Activities will include anaemia prevention drives at the field level, health screenings for children in schools and Anganwadi centres, and administrative improvements such as clearing pending files, asset verification and strengthening hospital sanitation.
Phase 2: NCD Screening (April 1 – April 15) The second phase will focus on non-communicable diseases. Screening camps will be organised at sub-centre levels for hypertension, diabetes and cancer. Authorities will also map chemotherapy services at District Daycare Cancer Centres and ensure viral infection testing for dialysis patients.
Phase 3: Communicable Diseases & Seasonal Preparedness (April 16 – May 15) With summer approaching, the focus will shift to communicable diseases and seasonal health preparedness. Efforts will include identifying and treating tuberculosis under the TB Mukt Bharat initiative, spreading awareness about heatstroke and vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, and ensuring adequate stocks of emergency medicines in healthcare facilities.
Phase 4: Urban Health Expansion (May 16 – June 12)
The final phase will focus on expanding urban healthcare services in regions such as Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Medchal. Plans include upgrading 145 Urban Primary Health Centres into polyclinics offering specialised services, deploying mobile medical vehicles in urban bastis and organising Food Safety Melas to educate the public about food adulteration.
Through this multi-phase initiative, the Telangana government aims to strengthen preventive healthcare, expand screening coverage and improve early detection of diseases among vulnerable populations.
