Hyderabad’s Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has launched a new Stem Cell Laboratory and Centre of Excellence, formally inaugurated by Telangana Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha.

The facility has been established in collaboration with US-based Tulasi Therapeutics, reflecting the state government’s commitment to making advanced and affordable healthcare accessible, particularly to underprivileged patients.

The laboratory is designed to advance stem cell research and clinical applications, with participation from NIMS doctors and scientists from Tulasi Therapeutics. The centre aims to develop low-cost treatments for cancer, blood disorders, and thalassemia, and will focus on translating breakthroughs in regenerative medicine into accessible therapies for patients. By integrating cutting-edge research into a government healthcare setting, the lab is expected to expand the availability of therapies that are traditionally limited to high-cost corporate hospitals.

Located within the NIMS campus, the stem cell facility will support both basic and applied research, as well as clinical applications. The initiative is expected to foster collaboration between Indian and international experts, building capacity in stem cell science and delivering affordable, advanced care to economically weaker sections.

The inauguration reflects a broader push by the Telangana government to strengthen public health infrastructure and integrate emerging biomedical technologies into mainstream care. It complements other recent investments in the state’s healthcare ecosystem, positioning Hyderabad as a hub for advanced medical research and treatment delivery.
