Tamil Nadu has launched a new initiative to improve access to physiotherapy services across the state by establishing 150 clinics under a partnership between Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) and Rewin Health.

The clinics will be located in smaller towns and aim to serve patients needing neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, paediatric and geriatric rehabilitation services.

Crucially, the programme is tailored to foster entrepreneurship: ownership and operation of the new physiotherapy centres will be reserved for individuals from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.

Financial support is part of the plan — the total project cost is ₹6 lakh, but SC/ST entrepreneurs need to contribute only ₹30,000 (5 %), while TAHDCO offers a 35 % subsidy, significantly reducing entry-barriers.

The initiative is expected to expand availability of rehabilitation services statewide while creating jobs for physiotherapists, technicians, and administrative staff.
