New 50‑Bed AYUSH Hospital Approved For Tenali Under Central Health Initiative

The Central Government has approved the establishment of a 50-bed AYUSH hospital in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh, as part of its initiative to strengthen traditional healthcare services across the state.

The project, sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹26 crore, is one of five AYUSH hospitals approved for Andhra Pradesh.

State Minister for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Nadendla Manohar announced the development during an inspection of the old Government Hospital premises at Kothapeta in Tenali, where the new facility is planned. Senior government officials accompanied the Minister during the site visit.

The proposed AYUSH hospital will be constructed within the 120-year-old government hospital premises, adjacent to the existing Urban Health Primary Centre. Given the deteriorating condition of the old structure, the government has decided to repurpose the land to develop a modern healthcare facility that improves access to traditional medical services for the local population.

The upcoming hospital will feature a dedicated outpatient department, a 50-bed inpatient facility, and modern diagnostic laboratories. The project design also includes provisions for future expansion, with the potential to establish a nursing college at a later stage.

The initiative reflects the Centre’s focus on promoting AYUSH systems of medicine, particularly Ayurveda, which has been gaining increased acceptance both nationally and internationally amid growing concerns around climate change, pollution, and lifestyle-related health issues.

The primary objective of the Tenali AYUSH hospital is to provide affordable and accessible Ayurvedic treatment while integrating traditional systems of medicine with modern healthcare practices. The facility is expected to serve as a key centre for preventive and curative healthcare in the region, contributing to the broader efforts of the Central and State governments to strengthen AYUSH services in Andhra Pradesh.
