The Ministry of Ayush has formally acknowledged the vital intervention of two Siddha physicians on a recent flight, where they rendered timely medical aid to a fellow passenger who suddenly became unwell at altitude.
The ministry’s Secretary, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, has commended their swift action after a passenger suddenly experienced acute giddiness mid-air. Even after cabin-crew first aid, the individual’s condition remained unstable — prompting a call for medical help. Two trained Siddha practitioners, present on board, responded immediately. They applied classical Varmam therapy — a recognised healing method under the Siddha system — using targeted vital-point stimulation techniques.
Within a short span, the passenger’s discomfort eased significantly, stabilising the condition and bringing relief during what could have been a serious in-flight emergency. The ministry described the doctors’ actions as a display of professional alertness and clinical acumen, underlining the effectiveness of traditional Siddha therapy when administered by trained experts in real-life emergencies.
The incident is being presented as a case highlighting the potential role of integrative healthcare methods in emergency response scenarios, beyond conventional allopathic aid. The ministry used this episode to emphasise the need for greater public awareness of Siddha and traditional therapies, along with structured training so that such interventions can be available when unexpected medical situations arise.
