Family planning empowers people to take charge of their lives and futures. Yet, many still face barriers — from distant clinics and high costs to misinformation.
To bridge these gaps, WHO’s Family Planning Accelerator Plus initiative is scaling up proven, innovative solutions:
Task-sharing: Trains community health workers, nurses, and midwives to provide contraceptive counselling and services, expanding access beyond doctors.
Post-pregnancy family planning: Offers counselling and contraceptives immediately after childbirth, miscarriage, or abortion, ensuring women don’t miss the opportunity for care.
Social and behaviour change (SBC): Uses community dialogues, media, and peer educators to dispel myths, challenge stigma, and encourage informed decisions.
Together, these efforts are transforming access in countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Nigeria—making family planning more equitable, integrated, and community-driven.
