The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ghaziabad, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jharkhand State Pharmacy Council (JSPC) to strengthen efforts toward safe and rational use of medicines, enhance pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance, and advance patient safety initiatives across Jharkhand.
The MoU was signed by Dr. V. Kalaiselvan, Secretary-cum-Scientific Director, IPC, and Shri Prasanth Kumar Pandey, Registrar-cum-Secretary, JSPC, in the presence of representatives from both organisations.
Under the agreement, IPC and JSPC will jointly work to build the capacity of registered pharmacists in adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting, pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance practices, and safe medication use. The partnership also aims to strengthen the use of the National Formulary of India (NFI) across healthcare facilities in Jharkhand by promoting its adoption as a standard reference document to support rational dispensing.
The collaboration includes organising awareness programmes for hospital and community pharmacists, supporting mandatory NFI use in institutional pharmacy settings, and facilitating the annual observance of National Pharmacovigilance Week in coordination with IPC.
The MoU is expected to boost professional engagement, increase ADR reporting, and reinforce medicine safety surveillance systems in the state. IPC will provide technical expertise, while JSPC will coordinate with pharmacists across public and private healthcare establishments to ensure effective implementation.
The partnership underscores a shared commitment to strengthening medication safety and promoting evidence-based pharmacy practices in Jharkhand.
