India and Switzerland are strengthening ties in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors following a high-level meeting between Piyush Goyal, India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, and Hélène Budliger Artieda, Switzerland’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs, who is visiting India with a delegation of Swiss pharma and biotech firms.
The discussion focused on expanding cooperation in research and development (R&D) and creating new investment opportunities for Swiss pharmaceutical companies in India’s rapidly expanding healthcare sector.
Both sides also reviewed progress under the India‑EFTA Trade & Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), signaling an intention to leverage the agreement to deepen collaboration across key sectors including pharma and biotech.
The engagement reflects India’s broader effort to position itself as a destination for innovation-led investment in healthcare, encouraging global pharma firms to tap into its large market and manufacturing potential.
This move comes as part of ongoing attempts to build stronger partnerships between Indian and Swiss firms, supported by favorable trade frameworks and growing interest from international investors.
