Himachal Pradesh Government To Launch Robotic Surgery At Medical Colleges In Hamirpur, Nerchowk, Shimla

The government of Himachal Pradesh Government is set to introduce robotic‑assisted surgery across three major medical colleges in the state by January 2026.

The colleges selected include Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Nerchowk, the medical college in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, and Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla (IGMC Shimla).

Alongside surgical upgrades, the Ministry of Health is installing new smart diagnostic laboratories. Facilities are also being rolled out in institutions including Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties, Chamiyana and institutions near Dharamsala, to broaden access to advanced diagnostics and treatments.

The initiative is backed by an investment of approximately ₹3,000 crore aimed at upgrading healthcare infrastructure across the state to match national standards.

Early results from the existing robotic‑surgery facilities are promising — over the past two months alone, 78 surgeries have been successfully conducted at Chamiyana and Shimla, and 38 at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda in Kangra.

The expansion of robotic surgery and diagnostics is part of a broader effort to ensure modern, high‑quality healthcare becomes accessible to the state’s population without requiring patients to travel outside Himachal.
