The Gujarat government has proposed setting up an International Medicity near Kalol, close to Ahmedabad, as part of its efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare ecosystem and position Gujarat as a global hub for medical care and wellness. The project, with an initial estimated investment of ₹13 crore, is planned as an integrated healthcare destination bringing together treatment, education, research and allied services under one framework.

Senior officials involved in the planning said the Medicity has been modelled on internationally recognised healthcare clusters such as Dubai Healthcare City, according to media reports. The vision is to develop a specialised zone that delivers advanced medical care while also supporting medical education, research, innovation and medical tourism.

The proposed Medicity will house internationally accredited hospitals, medical and nursing colleges, research and development centres, wellness and rehabilitation facilities, along with essential support infrastructure such as diagnostic centres and medical equipment services.
