Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel inaugurated a mobile cancer screening unit, Asha Van, in Gandhinagar, marking a significant step toward strengthening early cancer detection and preventive healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved regions of the state.
The cancer screening van has been donated by Jenburkt Pharmaceutical to the Bhavnagar branch of the Indian Red Cross Society. Designed to function as a fully equipped mobile diagnostic facility, Asha Van is fitted with EVA-Pro diagnostic systems, a mammography unit, and tele-consultation facilities that enable patients to access expert medical advice remotely.
The van allows on-site screening for a wide range of cancers, including lung, oral, blood, cervical, pancreatic, liver, breast and prostate cancers, using advanced diagnostic instruments. By bringing specialised screening services directly to communities, the initiative aims to support early diagnosis, improve treatment outcomes and reduce the burden of late-stage cancer detection.
The deployment of Asha Van aligns with the central government’s vision of expanding preventive healthcare access and supports Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Health and Wellness for All” initiative, particularly at the grassroots level where access to diagnostic infrastructure remains limited.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shri Ashish Bhuta, Managing Director of Jenburkt Pharmaceutical, along with office bearers of the Indian Red Cross Society, Bhavnagar branch, underscoring collaborative efforts between the public sector, industry and humanitarian organisations to strengthen community healthcare delivery.
