From 40 To 81 Medical Colleges: UP Charts Rapid Health Sector Growth, CM Yogi Says

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, addressing the Health Tech Conclave 1.0 in Lucknow, highlighted the state’s rapid expansion and achievements in healthcare, citing significant improvements in infrastructure, medical education, and public health outcomes.

Under his leadership, the number of medical colleges in the state has increased from 40 before 2017 to 81 today, while two All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have been established, alongside a network of district hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres, and health and wellness centres to improve access across rural and urban areas.

The expansion of healthcare capacity is complemented by financial protection schemes. Approximately 5.5 crore Ayushman Golden Cards have been issued in Uttar Pradesh, enabling cashless treatment up to ₹5 lakh per family annually. The state-run Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana addresses coverage gaps, further strengthening access for vulnerable populations.

Public health initiatives have yielded measurable results, including increased institutional deliveries, declines in maternal and infant mortality, and improved control of tuberculosis.

Technological integration has become a focus, with initiatives including telemedicine, digital diagnostics, and AI-assisted screening. The state is also developing medical device and pharmaceutical parks to support production, research, and innovation.

These combined efforts in education, infrastructure, and public health have positioned Uttar Pradesh as one of India’s fastest-growing healthcare hubs, enhancing service quality and access for its population and neighbouring regions.
