Dengue Cases in Manipur Surge Past 3,300

Manipur is witnessing a significant spike in dengue infections this year, with over 3,300 confirmed cases and one reported death, according to the latest data from the state health department.

Between January 1 and October 23, a total of 3,114 dengue cases were confirmed out of 7,054 samples tested. Imphal West remains the epicentre of the outbreak with 2,186 cases, followed by Imphal East (556), Thoubal (408), and Bishnupur (346) — where the lone dengue-related fatality occurred.

Manipur had recorded 2,463 cases and five deaths in 2024, and 2,548 cases with no fatalities in 2023, indicating a sharp year-on-year increase in infections.

To contain the spread, the health department has carried out fogging operations in 1,968 localities, including six relief camps, and launched 1,535 awareness campaigns across the state.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, was first detected in Moreh, a border town, in 2007 and has since spread across Manipur.
