In a landmark decision aimed at transforming the healthcare and medical education landscape, the Chhattisgarh government led by Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has approved six major construction projects worth over ₹1,390 crore. The projects include the establishment of four new government medical colleges and two additional healthcare institutions, marking a major step toward expanding medical education and improving healthcare accessibility across the state.

The announcement was made during the 51st meeting of the Board of Directors of the Chhattisgarh Medical Services Corporation Limited (CGMSC), held at its headquarters in Naya Raipur. The board approved tender rates for several key projects, paving the way for the immediate commencement of construction.

Four districts—Manendragarh, Kabirdham, Janjgir-Champa, and Geedam—will soon have their own government medical colleges, bringing advanced medical education and healthcare facilities closer to underserved regions. Manendragarh Medical College will be constructed at a cost of ₹323.03 crore, Kabirdham Medical College at ₹318.27 crore, Janjgir-Champa Medical College at ₹318.27 crore, and Geedam Medical College at ₹326.53 crore. Once operational, these colleges will significantly expand the scope of medical education in Chhattisgarh, offering aspiring doctors opportunities for high-quality training within the state itself. They are also expected to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in remote and tribal areas, ensuring that specialized care becomes more accessible to citizens.

Alongside the new medical colleges, two other major healthcare construction projects were approved — a 220-bedded hospital building in Manendragarh at a cost of ₹28.48 crore and a Government Ayurveda College and Hospital building in Bilaspur, estimated at ₹79.52 crore. These developments will further enhance the state’s healthcare infrastructure by integrating modern and traditional systems of medicine, strengthening both allopathic and Ayush healthcare networks.

Highlighting the government’s commitment, Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal stated, “The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai is continuously working to strengthen health services. The establishment of new medical colleges will not only increase the scope of medical education but also strengthen the availability of doctors and paramedical staff.” He further added, “The health sector is getting a new direction under the sensitive thinking and visionary leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai. It is our priority to provide quality health services to every citizen of the state.”

The meeting was attended by Chairman Deepak Mhaske, Health Department Secretary Amit Kataria, Managing Director Ritesh Agarwal, and senior officials from the Finance and GST Departments. The board emphasized timely completion, adherence to quality standards, and transparency throughout the project execution process.

The new projects are expected to create thousands of job opportunities and enhance medical education prospects for local youth. The expansion of healthcare facilities will also bring advanced medical services to rural and tribal populations, reducing their dependence on urban centers for treatment. Speaking on the initiative, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai reaffirmed the state’s commitment to healthcare equity, saying, “Our aim is to create such a health infrastructure in Chhattisgarh where every citizen gets quality and accessible medical facilities without any discrimination. The state government is giving top priority to the health of the public.”

With these projects, the Chhattisgarh government has taken a decisive step toward building a robust, inclusive, and modern healthcare system, ensuring that quality medical services reach every corner of the state.
