
The Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati, hosted a one-day conference on the latest advancements in diagnosing and managing Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Organized by the Department of Medical Oncology (Adult Hematology), the event was led by Dr. Asif Iqbal (Organizing Secretary) and Dr. Munlima Hazarika (Organizing President).
The conference brought together experts from leading institutions including PGIMER Chandigarh, TMC Kolkata, CMC Vellore, and TMH Mumbai, along with 19 regional faculty members.
Key discussions focused on risk stratification, advanced diagnostics such as flow cytometry and next-generation sequencing, measurable residual disease, novel therapies, transplant strategies, and supportive care. The sessions emphasized early diagnosis, timely referrals, equitable access to transplants, and integrating new therapies within public and teaching hospitals.
Over 90 postgraduate delegates in Hematology, Pathology, Hemato-Pathology, and Transfusion Medicine participated, gaining practical insights for clinical practice and patient care. BBCI aims to continue such initiatives to strengthen AML management across India.
