AIIA Goa Launches New Ayurvedic Healthcare Facilities on International Women’s Day

New units aim to strengthen patient care and expand access to specialised Ayurvedic treatments at the institute.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, inaugurated several specialised healthcare facilities aimed at improving patient care and expanding access to advanced Ayurvedic treatment services.
The facilities were inaugurated by Shri Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, in the presence of Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India; Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush; Prof. (Vd.) P. K. Prajapati, Director (AIIA); Prof. (Dr.) Sujata Kadam, Dean, AIIA Goa; and other senior faculty members of the institute.
The newly launched facilities are expected to improve healthcare accessibility and provide patients with enhanced Ayurvedic treatment services.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “It is a matter of pride that as many as 50% of the 100 undergraduate seats at AIIA are reserved for Goan students. AIIA Goa is committed to promoting traditional systems of medicine alongside modern healthcare. The inauguration of these facilities at AIIA Goa will significantly enhance patient care and expand access to specialized Ayurvedic treatments for the people.”
The Chief Minister also announced plans to expand the AIIA Goa campus, including the establishment of a Cancer Research Centre, Central Research Laboratories, a pharmacy and other advanced facilities. For this purpose, he assured the allocation of an additional 50 acres of land to the institute.
Addressing the gathering, Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (IC), Ministry of Ayush, highlighted the government’s vision for strengthening Ayurveda across the country and said, “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Ayush is continuously working to strengthen Ayurveda infrastructure across the country. The new facilities at AIIA Goa will further support holistic healthcare delivery and benefit patients through integrative treatment approaches.”
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, also emphasised the growing global recognition of Ayurveda and said, “AIIA has been playing a pivotal role in strengthening Ayurveda education, research, and patient care. The addition of these facilities at AIIA Goa will further enhance the institute’s capacity to deliver specialized healthcare services while promoting evidence-based Ayurveda and integrative medicine.”
Prof. (Vd.) P. K. Prajapati, Director (AIIA) highlighted the importance of the new facilities and stated, “The inauguration of these specialized units at AIIA Goa marks an important step in strengthening patient-centered Ayurvedic healthcare services. These facilities will enable us to provide comprehensive treatment, promote preventive healthcare practices, and enhance the quality of services available to patients.”
Prof. (Dr.) Sujata Kadam, Dean, AIIA Goa, also underscored the academic and clinical value of the newly introduced units and said, “The addition of these specialized facilities will significantly strengthen clinical training, research, and patient care at AIIA Goa. By integrating advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services with the principles of Ayurveda, we aim to provide comprehensive healthcare solutions and enrich the learning experience of our students and scholars.”
The newly inaugurated facilities include the Sushruta OT Complex, a modern surgical unit designed to support Ayurvedic surgical procedures and improve patient care; a Physiotherapy Unit offering rehabilitation and therapeutic services; a Kaumarbhritya Panchakarma Unit, dedicated to Panchakarma therapies for children and holistic paediatric healthcare; and a Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Unit, which will help assess bone health and aid in the early detection and prevention of osteoporosis and related conditions.
These developments reflect AIIA’s continued focus on strengthening patient services through integrative and evidence-based Ayurvedic healthcare, while promoting preventive and holistic treatment approaches.
The inauguration of these facilities marks another step toward expanding healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the reach of Ayurveda-based treatment services for patients and communities.
