New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated a 10-bed Medical ICU ward and a GI HD Video Endoscopy Suite at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, while also launching an Integrated AYUSH Stress Management Programme aimed at addressing rising mental health concerns. She further laid the foundation stone for a new OPD building at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), according to an official statement. The Chief Minister said the government is working in "mission mode" to elevate healthcare standards. "Transforming Delhi's healthcare into a world-class system is our resolve," she said.
The newly inaugurated ICU at GTB Hospital is equipped with advanced medical equipment and upgraded facilities to ensure timely and quality care for critically ill patients. Meanwhile, the GI HD Video Endoscopy Suite is expected to enhance diagnostic accuracy and speed in detecting gastrointestinal and digestive disorders, enabling early treatment interventions.
Addressing the issue of growing stress levels in modern lifestyles, Gupta described stress as a "silent epidemic" impacting students, professionals and the elderly alike.
As part of its mental health initiative, the government will operationalise Integrated AYUSH Stress Management OPDs across key institutions, including Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College, Dr B.R. Sur Homoeopathic Medical College, Brahm Prakash Ayurved Charak Sansthan and IHBAS. These centres will offer yoga, lifestyle counselling and digital detox therapies.
The Chief Minister also stated that steps would be taken to strengthen the nearly 1,500-bed capacity of GTB Hospital by expediting construction of its previously incomplete rear building.
Calling IHBAS a leading mental healthcare institution in North India, Gupta noted that the new OPD building would help reduce waiting times and streamline consultation, diagnostics and treatment services amid increasing patient load. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh described the developments as a major boost to the Capital’s healthcare sector. "The health of Delhi's citizens is our responsibility. I urge all doctors and healthcare workers to continue serving with the same dedication; the Delhi Government stands firmly with you," he said. Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari, Shahdara MLA Sanjay Goel and senior Health Department officials were also present at the event.
