State aims to boost self-reliance in drug production and strengthen healthcare workforce through new industry and recruitment drive
Jharkhand Health, Food Supply and Disaster Management Minister Irfan Ansari on Monday said that the state government is planning to establish a medicine manufacturing industry to strengthen the healthcare sector and create employment opportunities for youth.
Speaking at a programme held at the National Health Mission (NHM) auditorium in Ranchi, Ansari stated that the proposed industry would help Jharkhand become self-reliant in drug production and reduce dependence on medicines sourced from outside the state.
The programme was jointly organised by the Pharmacy Council of India, RKDF University and RKDF Pharmacy College.
The minister highlighted that even after more than two decades since the formation of the state, Jharkhand does not have a major medicine manufacturing unit. He noted that commonly used medicines such as paracetamol and essential supplies like dextrose saline are currently procured from outside the state.
He further stated that Jharkhand has over 123 pharmacy colleges producing nearly 7,000 graduates every year, and the proposed industry would generate significant employment opportunities for local youth.
Ansari also announced that recruitment for more than 7,300 ANM and GNM posts will soon be initiated under the NHM to strengthen healthcare services in both rural and urban areas.
He added that around 750 medicine stores are being set up across the state, which will require a large number of pharmacists and help improve access to affordable medicines for the public.
