The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to invest about ₹1,000 crore in procuring advanced medical equipment to strengthen tertiary care facilities at government medical colleges across the state, with a focus on oncology, cardiac care and organ transplantation. The move aims to expand specialised services in public health institutions and reduce patient dependence on private hospitals.

Procurement and supply of the equipment will be overseen by the Madhya Pradesh Public Health Services Corporation Limited (MPPHSCL), which will set equipment rates while individual colleges determine priorities based on their clinical needs.

Mayank Agrawal, Managing Director of MPPHSCL, highlighted that the priority sectors include oncology, cardiology and transplant care, and that hospitals will receive devices according to their needs and readiness.

The funding is expected to support upgrades at government medical colleges in cities including Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Rewa, Jabalpur and Sagar, where super-speciality departments will be developed or expanded. Facilities slated for enhancement include cardiothoracic care, angiography and angioplasty units, as well as comprehensive oncology departments offering medical, surgical and radiation services under one roof.

The procurement push is part of a broader effort to modernise public healthcare infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh’s medical education institutions, aligning with state priorities to bring sophisticated diagnostic and treatment technologies into government hospitals.
