ShardaCare Healthcity to Host BMT Awareness Programme and Free HLA Testing Camp
ShardaCare Healthcity, a super-speciality hospital in Greater Noida, is organising a bone marrow transplant (BMT) awareness programme and a free HLA testing camp in collaboration with the Globally Integrated Foundation for Thalassaemia (GIFT).
The camp will be held on January 17, 2025, and will be led by Dr Pawan Kumar Singh, a senior specialist in blood disorders and bone marrow transplantation. During the session, families will be informed about thalassaemia, its treatment options—including bone marrow transplant—and the need for early treatment. The free HLA tests will help identify matching sibling donors for patients who may need a transplant.
Thalassaemia is a serious genetic blood disorder that mainly affects children. Many patients need regular blood transfusions throughout their lives, which can be physically, emotionally, and financially challenging for families. India has a high number of thalassaemia cases, with around 10,000 to 15,000 children born with thalassaemia major each year. However, lack of awareness, late diagnosis, and limited access to advanced treatments like bone marrow transplant remain key challenges.
