REC Limited has pledged ₹3.60 crore to support rural and tribal healthcare through the deployment of three Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) in the state of Tripura. Two of these units will serve communities in the Dhalai district, with the third operating in South Tripura district.
The MMUs were formally flagged off on 30 November 2025 in a ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Agartala, in the presence of top REC officials and representatives from Sewa International, the organisation tasked with operating the units.
Each mobile unit comes equipped with GPS‑enabled tracking to ensure reliable and transparent service delivery. Under the initiative, residents in remote and tribal regions will receive free medical consultations, basic diagnostic services, essential medicines, and preventive‑health awareness. On average, the MMUs are expected to reach roughly 3,750 beneficiaries every month.
This initiative aims to bridge longstanding gaps in rural healthcare access in Tripura. For many communities in Dhalai and South Tripura, MMUs represent a lifeline — delivering primary care directly to remote villages that lack easy access to hospitals or clinics. The project underscores REC’s commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure in underserved areas of India.
The operation of these MMUs over the next three years reflects a sustained effort to ensure inclusive, equitable healthcare for marginalized populations.
The intervention is expected to improve health outcomes, support preventive care, and reduce healthcare inequities across tribal and remote communities in Tripura.
