The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, has successfully treated two young patients suffering from severe ventricular premature contractions (VPCs) using advanced cardiac electrophysiology techniques, achieving complete clinical recovery.
The patients underwent treatment using 3D electro-anatomical mapping combined with Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA), a specialised procedure used to precisely identify and eliminate abnormal electrical pathways in the heart. Following the intervention, the VPC burden in both patients was reduced from 40–50 per cent to zero, indicating full resolution of the condition.
The life-saving procedures were carried out free of cost under the Aarogyasri health insurance scheme, ensuring access to advanced cardiac care regardless of patients’ financial status. The successful outcomes highlight the growing availability of high-end electrophysiology services within the public healthcare system in Telangana.
NIMS remains the only government hospital across the two Telugu states offering an active Electrophysiology Study (EPS) and RFA programme, positioning it as a key referral centre for complex cardiac rhythm disorders. The achievement underscores Telangana’s focus on strengthening tertiary care services and expanding equitable access to advanced medical technologies through state-supported health schemes.
