AIIMS Bathinda Launches DHR–ICMR-Backed Molecular Oncology Diagnostics Lab
Under the guidance of Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Ratan Gupta, Department of Pathology, AIIMS Bathinda has inaugurated the DHR–ICMR Advanced Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Services (DIAMONDS) Lab to provide advanced cancer diagnostic services.
The facility, established under the Department of Health Research’s DIAMONDS initiative, will offer high-end molecular pathology tests for lung and breast cancers, supporting both patient care and clinical research.
The lab is part of a national network of DIAMONDS centres aimed at expanding access to free-of-cost, advanced oncology diagnostics across India. It also integrates digital reporting and standardized testing protocols to ensure timely and accurate results. AIIMS Bathinda’s facility will serve as a zonal hub, providing guidance to linked centres, facilitating research collaborations, and contributing data to the National Cancer Registry Program.
The DIAMONDS project, operational since 2021–22, is implemented in medical institutes to optimise infrastructure and manpower, bridging gaps in cancer diagnostic services and enhancing healthcare access for patients in high-incidence regions.
