The Pharmacology Laboratory of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi—an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush—has been awarded three major certifications by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS): IS/ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management, IS/ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management, and IS/ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety. The recognition was conferred during a BIS event on quality management systems for officials of CCRH.
This achievement signifies a major step forward in standardizing and strengthening the institute’s laboratory and Small Animal House Facility. By adopting an Integrated Management System (IMS), AIIA has aligned its research processes with globally accepted benchmarks, ensuring improved operational efficiency, ethical compliance, and environmental responsibility in preclinical pharmacological research involving Ayurvedic formulations.
The ISO certifications support several institutional improvements: streamlined and reproducible laboratory procedures under the Quality Management System; waste reduction, responsible energy use, and other environmentally sustainable practices under the Environmental Management System; and enhanced workplace safety through risk mitigation, ergonomic laboratory design, and routine safety assessments under the Occupational Health and Safety framework.
The BIS audit, conducted in two phases, helped contextualize ISO standards for pharmacology and animal research settings. The certifications further elevate AIIA’s national and international credibility as a leading centre of excellence in Ayurveda research and innovation.
Leadership from AIIA, BIS, and CCRH emphasized that the adoption of robust quality systems, professional accountability, and continuous improvement is essential for institutions striving for high standards.
AIIA, accredited with NAAC A++ and recognized as India’s first NABH-accredited public sector Ayurveda hospital, continues to integrate classical Ayurvedic knowledge with modern scientific methodologies. With a 200-bed hospital, 12 specialty departments, and 45 specialty clinics, the institute remains committed to promoting evidence-based, ethical, and globally aligned Ayurvedic research.
Additional Professor Dr. Galib, Dr. Bidhan, and Dr. Vijay Kumar represented AIIA at the event.
