India’s healthcare landscape has traditionally been reactive—focused on treatment after illness rather than prevention. Challenging this paradigm requires more than innovation; it demands scale, affordability, trust, and a long-term commitment to impact. Deepak Sahni has been among the early leaders to do exactly that—shaping a prevention-first, consumer-centric, and technology-enabled diagnostics ecosystem, and now extending that impact by backing the next generation of founders.
Democratising Access to Quality Preventive Diagnostics
At Healthians, Sahni championed a simple yet powerful belief: quality diagnostics should be accessible, affordable, and convenient for every Indian. By bringing diagnostics to people’s homes through at-home sample collection, Healthians reduced dependence on hospital-centric models and eliminated key barriers such as travel, waiting time, and inconvenience.
This shift made preventive healthcare practical and habitual. Regular health check-ups, early detection of lifestyle and chronic diseases, and personalised health insights became part of everyday life—helping individuals move from reactive care to proactive health management.
Equally important was an uncompromising focus on quality. Healthians emerged as one of the youngest diagnostic labs in India to receive global accreditations such as CAP, reinforcing trust and adherence to international benchmarks.
More than 70 lakh Indians have accessed preventive diagnostics through Healthians—demonstrating that large-scale healthcare impact is possible when affordability, accessibility, and quality are aligned. At the heart of Sahni’s journey lies a clear mission: to add 10 healthy years to every life and make hospitalisation optional.
Multiplying Impact by Backing Founders
Today, Sahni is extending this philosophy beyond healthcare delivery. He has committed $10 million to invest in early-stage Indian startups over the next three years, focusing on founders who are shaping consumer behaviour, building digital ecosystems, and creating technology-led solutions.
Beyond capital, his emphasis is on mentorship, validation, and sustainable scaling—supporting 20–25 startups to multiply impact across sectors. As Sahni believes, success may be temporary, but impact is enduring. His journey reflects how building systems, and then empowering others to build theirs, can transform lives at scale.
