Metropolis Healthcare has announced the launch of its Centre of Genomics, a national initiative aimed at scaling its capabilities in advanced genomics, molecular diagnostics, precision medicine, and genomic research. The centre is designed to deliver clinically actionable genomic insights across multiple high-impact medical specialties, supporting patient care throughout the healthcare continuum.
The Centre of Genomics integrates Metropolis’ existing expertise in precision oncology, anchored by its Global Reference Laboratory in Mumbai, with the specialised genomics capabilities of Core Diagnostics in the Delhi NCR region. Together, these facilities now operate as CAP-accredited national referral laboratories for genomics, providing a unified platform that combines a broad portfolio of next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays, bioinformatics and data interpretation, and scientific and clinical expertise.
To strengthen its sequencing infrastructure, Metropolis has deployed Illumina’s NovaSeq X Series, featuring XLEAP-SBS chemistry, capable of generating over 20,000 whole genomes per year. This high-throughput system doubles the capacity of previous Illumina sequencers, enabling rapid and accurate genomic research at an unprecedented scale.
The Centre of Genomics leverages a multi-platform NGS infrastructure already operational across Metropolis’ key hubs. Multidisciplinary teams of molecular pathologists, genomic scientists, bioinformaticians, researchers, and certified genetic counsellors work collaboratively to translate complex genomic data into clear, clinically relevant insights, enhancing patient care and precision treatment strategies.
This integrated approach positions Metropolis Healthcare to expand access to advanced genomic testing and strengthen its role as a national leader in precision medicine and genomic research.
