More than 96.73 lakh Ayushman Vay Vandana Cards have been issued across India as of 31 December 2025, reflecting the growing reach of healthcare coverage for senior citizens under the Ayushman Bharat framework.
Under the Ayushman Vay Vandana initiative, a total of 10.33 lakh hospital admissions worth ₹2,154.37 crore have been authorised nationwide. Of these, 3.93 lakh admissions involving female beneficiaries accounted for ₹820.42 crore, while 6.40 lakh admissions for male beneficiaries amounted to ₹1,333.94 crore across implementing States and Union Territories.
Ayushman Vay Vandana is an extension of the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which provides health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation to economically vulnerable families. In October 2024, the scheme was expanded to cover senior citizens aged 70 years and above, benefitting nearly 6 crore elderly individuals from 4.5 crore families, irrespective of their socio-economic status.
The update was shared by the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
