The Government of Maharashtra has formalised new partnerships with major voluntary organisations to expand public health, water conservation and rural development efforts across the state.

Twelve Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with Tata Trusts and a separate agreement with Naam Foundation at a ceremony in Mumbai, signalling a boost to collaborative social sector programmes.

Under the agreements, the state will work with Tata Trusts to enhance the delivery of government-run schemes in core areas including healthcare services, nutrition, water security and livelihoods.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen primary health infrastructure in both urban and remote regions, expand telemedicine and emergency response systems, and support maternal, child and adolescent health initiatives.

Partnerships with multiple accredited hospitals in Nagpur are also part of the arrangements to improve access to quality medical care for vulnerable patients.

The MoU with Naam Foundation targets water conservation in drought-hit Marathwada and Vidarbha. The foundation has long supported water security and farm sustainability in rural Maharashtra.

The partnerships are designed to amplify the reach and impact of existing government programmes by leveraging the field experience and implementation capacity of these voluntary organisations. The alliances are part of a broader push to improve quality of life in rural areas through integrated approaches that link health, nutrition, water, sanitation and livelihoods.

These agreements come against the backdrop of other state efforts to strengthen rural health and welfare. The government has recently approved initiatives such as the “My Village, Healthy Village” campaign to boost rural healthcare through multi-sectoral interventions, including sanitation and preventive health programmes.

By combining government resources with civil society partnerships, Maharashtra aims to accelerate development outcomes and ensure that welfare schemes reach local communities more effectively, particularly in underserved regions.
