Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will lay the foundation stone today for a super-speciality children’s hospital and research centre on the King Institute campus in Guindy, Chennai.
The 6.5-acre facility, costing Rs 417.07 crore, will be India’s first dedicated super-speciality hospital exclusively for children and is expected to be completed within 18 months.
The six-floor complex, with a total built-up area of 4.63 lakh square feet, will function as a comprehensive tertiary-care centre. It will include separate residential blocks for postgraduate students, nurses, and professors, along with dining and utility facilities.
The hospital will house specialised paediatric departments such as cardiology, oncology, neurology, nephrology, haematology, and paediatric surgery, alongside a bone marrow transplant unit. Emergency and trauma care services, neonatal and paediatric intensive care units, dialysis facilities, a blood bank, operation theatres, and post-operative wards will also be part of the facility.
Once completed, the hospital is expected to significantly strengthen paediatric healthcare in Tamil Nadu, providing advanced treatment and research opportunities while serving as a model for child-focused medical infrastructure across India.
