Nagaland has taken a significant step toward strengthening healthcare delivery with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to integrate drone technology into the State’s healthcare service framework.

The agreement was signed on January 22, 2026, at the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare in Kohima between the Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre (NGISRSC) under the Planning & Transformation Department and the Department of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW). The initiative aims to address persistent healthcare access challenges caused by the State’s difficult terrain and remote locations.

Under the collaboration, drone technology will be deployed for emergency medical supply delivery, support during disease outbreaks and natural disasters, aerial assistance for vector control, and geospatial mapping to improve health planning and decision-making. The initiative is designed to enhance response times, improve coverage in hard-to-reach areas, and strengthen overall health system resilience.

As part of the agreement, NGISRSC will be responsible for drone operations, capacity building, data analysis, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks. The Department of Health & Family Welfare will provide logistical support, coordination, and operational planning to facilitate effective deployment within the public health system.

The collaboration is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of healthcare service delivery across the State while strengthening preparedness and response mechanisms during health emergencies and disaster situations. It also reflects Nagaland’s growing focus on adopting technology-driven solutions to improve public service delivery.

The MoA marks an important milestone in the State’s move toward a resilient, technology-enabled healthcare ecosystem and sets a precedent for inter-departmental collaboration in leveraging emerging technologies for public welfare.
