The Punjab government has approved the development of a 256-bed modern trauma centre at Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, with a total estimated investment of ₹81.80 crore.
Under the plan, the centre will be built as a fully air-conditioned facility equipped with modern operation theatres, intensive care units (ICUs), advanced diagnostic systems and ample ventilator support, aimed at significantly enhancing emergency and critical care services in the region.
Once completed, the trauma centre is expected to serve not only residents of Patiala but also patients from surrounding districts, improving access to timely treatment for accident victims and critically ill individuals. The infrastructure upgrade is part of broader efforts by the state to strengthen its public healthcare network and reduce delays in emergency care brought on by infrastructure constraints.
In addition to the clinical facilities, a central facility centre costing ₹56 lakh is planned within the hospital campus to streamline hospital operations. This unit will house patient billing and admission sections as well as a mini-laboratoryfor rapid diagnostic testing, which authorities say will speed up emergency care decisions.
To improve living conditions for healthcare professionals and support the expanded trauma services, funds totaling ₹13.53 crore have been earmarked for the construction of a dedicated hostel for junior resident doctors.
The expansion of Rajindra Hospital’s trauma care capacity aligns with broader state health objectives, which include enhancing emergency readiness and building resilient healthcare infrastructure capable of handling high volumes of acute and critical cases.
The announcement follows ongoing investments in emergency and patient-care facilities at the hospital and reflects continuing government priorities to modernise healthcare services across Punjab’s public hospital network.
