Jharkhand will soon offer comprehensive treatment for 21 critical diseases at selected government and private hospitals in the state.

The expanded services are planned at four major government hospitals — Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Sadar Hospital in Ranchi, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad, and MGM Medical College in Jamshedpur — following a meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department, Ajoy Kumar Singh. Facilities for treating serious illnesses will also be extended to four private hospitals in the state.

Treatment packages for the identified diseases have already been finalised, and necessary facilities will be provided to hospitals that participate, officials said, adding that patients will no longer need to travel outside Jharkhand for care of critical conditions. The diseases covered under the scheme include all types of cancer, kidney transplant, liver‑related diseases, acid attack injuries, thalassaemia, blood dyscrasia, bone marrow transplant, plastic surgery, retinal detachment and brain haemorrhage, among others.

Treatment for these conditions will be provided under the Mukhya Mantri Abua Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, under which fixed packages are being determined to ensure hassle‑free care.

Officials also directed that comprehensive facilities for the treatment of sickle cell anaemia be ensured at Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, and said an MoU will be signed with Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore to facilitate bone marrow transplant services in Ranchi.
