VELS Medical College & Hospital (VMCH) in Chennai held the White Coat Ceremony for the MBBS 2025–26 batch on 17 December 2025, formally inducting 250 students into the medical profession.
The event was presided over by Dr Ishari K. Ganesh, Founder‑Chancellor of VELS Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS), and attended by Chief Guest Dr C. Palanivelu, Chairman of GEM Hospitals.
Dr Preethaa Ganesh, Vice President of Vels Group of Institutions, highlighted VMCH’s achievements, including national and international awards, NAAC A++ accreditation, its four Chennai campuses spanning 120 acres, and programmes across Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Management, Aviation, Maritime Studies, Law, Arts and Science. She emphasised the white coat as a symbol of knowledge, integrity, empathy and service to humanity.
Dr Ishari K. Ganesh noted that this was the first batch with increased intake from 150 to 250 students, assured parents of a nurturing and disciplined learning environment, and announced ongoing postgraduate programmes with plans for expansion, alongside potential research and academic collaboration with GEM Hospitals.
Dr C. Palanivelu commended VELS’ infrastructure and leadership, encouraged students to practise medicine with compassion and integrity, highlighted the importance of the White Coat and Hippocratic Oath, and distributed academic gift hampers.
The ceremony reaffirmed VMCH’s mission to develop globally competent, ethical and compassionate doctors dedicated to patient care and community service.
