The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna has secured significant backing to establish a dedicated MedTech Incubation Centre, a development aimed at strengthening the healthcare innovation landscape in eastern India.
The announcement was formalised in New Delhi on February 16, 2026, with national science and innovation officials, representatives of premier institutions and AIIMS Patna leadership in attendance.
Funding for the initiative has been provided by Blockchain for Impact, a non-profit organisation that supports high-impact projects across India, particularly in healthcare and technology. A Letter of Intent marking this support was handed over to AIIMS Patna’s research leadership, signalling broad institutional commitment to the project.
The incubation centre will serve as a platform for clinicians, researchers, engineers and entrepreneurs to co-develop medical technologies, digital health tools and other healthcare solutions that address practical clinical needs. It will offer shared laboratory infrastructure, technical mentorship, regulatory guidance and business development support to early-stage MedTech start-ups and innovators.
Under the new structure, AIIMS Patna’s Dean of Research will oversee strategic research integration, while the chief executive of the institute’s Incubation and Innovation Council will lead operations and external partnerships with industry, academia and investors.
The centre is designed to address a longstanding challenge in medical innovation: the gap between clinical problems encountered in hospitals and the technological solutions available to solve them. By fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals and technology developers, the initiative aims to accelerate the development of safe, affordable and locally relevant medical devices and digital health solutions.
The establishment of the MedTech Incubation Centre aligns with broader efforts in India to build robust pathways for healthcare innovation from ideation to market adoption, echoing recent national frameworks that support biomedical and MedTech innovation ecosystems.
Officials involved in the project emphasise that the centre could help position AIIMS Patna as a key hub for clinical and technological innovation, improving patient care outcomes while expanding opportunities for start-ups and researchers in the region.
