WHO invites experts and dignitaries from their respective fields to join its Science Council to create global impact. The WHO Science Council is one of the organization’s highest-level advisory bodies.

To keep pace with the growing advancement in science, WHO is engaging global experts to guide research efforts and translate findings into meaningful public health outcomes.

“Scientific excellence is the backbone of effective public health,” said Dr Sylvie Briand, Chief Scientist, World Health Organization. WHO is seeking leaders who can contribute to the growth of global healthcare alongside the organization.

Conflicts and discrimination are not barriers, and individuals with knowledge and expertise in their fields are welcome. WHO aims to build evidence and advance research that may hold solutions for global healthcare challenges.

WHO is looking to appoint 15–20 senior multidisciplinary experts with proven leadership and strong track records across areas including biomedical research, emerging technologies, data science, health economics, social sciences, ethics, governance, and global health.

WHO will ensure that experts do not face pressure related to time, travel, communication, or cultural barriers. The Council expects bilateral cooperation and mutual support among its members.

The Science Council is expected to meet three times a year, either in person in Geneva or virtually.

Experts and dignitaries are invited to apply for the Science Council by 16 January 2026, before 23:59 Geneva time. Applicants should submit a cover letter (without institutional letterhead), a two-page curriculum vitae, and a completed WHO Declaration of Interests form.

Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for interviews, and WHO may publish the names and biographies of selected experts.
