Union Health Ministry Confirms Only Two Nipah Cases In West Bengal, Refutes Inflated Figures

By Team VOH

The Union Health Ministry confirmed that only two cases of Nipah Virus Disease (NiVD) have been reported from West Bengal since December last year, according to reports from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

In response to the confirmed cases, the government, in coordination with the West Bengal authorities, implemented comprehensive public health measures following established protocols. A total of 196 contacts linked to the two cases were traced, monitored, and tested, all of whom were found to be asymptomatic and tested negative for the virus.

Enhanced surveillance, laboratory testing, and field investigations were carried out by central and state health agencies, successfully containing the situation. No additional cases have been detected to date.

Speculative and incorrect figures regarding Nipah Virus Disease cases are being circulated in certain sections of the media. The ministry has advised the public to rely only on verified information from official sources and to refrain from spreading unverified reports.
