The state of Bihar is set to receive a new orthopaedic hospital, as part of a broader government push to enhance medical infrastructure across the state, approved at a cost of ₹215 crore under the direction of Health Minister Mangal Pandey.
The new facility will be a 400-bed, state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Hospital, to be built near the existing Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Orthopaedic Hospital in Patna.
The hospital project aims to benefit patients across Bihar suffering from bone and joint-related conditions.
In addition to this infrastructure development, the state plans a large-scale recruitment drive to fill over 26,000 vacant positions in the health department. By December, posts for General Medical Officers and Dentists will be filled, while examinations for 11,389 staff nurses and 12,627 paramedical staff including pharmacists, lab technicians, X-ray/ECG technicians, theatre assistants and dental hygienists have already been completed.
Under the state’s public health initiative, further hiring is planned: 220 Ophthalmic Assistants, 1,504 AYUSH Medical Officers, more than 5,000 Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), among other roles. In total, around 32,700 appointments are expected to be completed in the coming four months.
As part of the broader health-infrastructure expansion, 610 new Health and Wellness Centres will soon be inaugurated to enhance both rural and urban health coverage throughout Bihar.
The ₹215 crore hospital and the recruitment and centre-building drive reflect the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility, capacity, and quality of healthcare for residents across Bihar.
