Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel conducted bilateral health meetings with the Ministers of Health from Sri Lanka and Fiji in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine. The meetings highlighted India’s role in fostering regional health cooperation and strengthening collaborative frameworks in healthcare and traditional medicine.
During discussions with Nalinda Jayatissa, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Patel reviewed the ongoing health partnership between India and Sri Lanka, explored opportunities to expand cooperation in areas such as medical research, training, and public health initiatives, and discussed ways to support regional pandemic preparedness and health system strengthening. The meeting reinforced India’s commitment to being a reliable partner for Sri Lanka in advancing both conventional and traditional health programs.
In the meeting with Ratu Atonio Rabici Lalabalavu, Fiji’s Minister for Health and Medical Services, the two sides deliberated on enhancing bilateral health cooperation, sharing expertise in public health, preventive care, and traditional medicine, and exploring new avenues for collaboration to improve healthcare delivery in Fiji.
These bilateral engagements took place alongside the WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine, which brings together global policymakers, healthcare leaders, scientists, and traditional medicine practitioners to discuss evidence-based integration of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine into health systems.
