Afghan Public Health Minister Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali visited New Delhi and met with Minister of State for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav on 17 December 2025 to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between India and Afghanistan in the field of traditional medicine.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine. During the meeting, both sides explored avenues for collaboration in multiple areas, including research, education, regulation, and healthcare delivery of traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Unani, and Homeopathy. The interaction highlighted the shared interest of both countries in promoting traditional medicine as a vital component of holistic, people‑centric healthcare.

The talks also focused on developing joint initiatives, capacity-building programmes, and knowledge exchange mechanisms to enhance the availability and quality of traditional medicine services in Afghanistan. The meeting reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s healthcare sector, particularly in the area of traditional and complementary medicine, which has significant potential to improve public health outcomes and strengthen preventive and curative care in the region.

Earlier during the Afghan Minister’s visit, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda held a separate discussion with Mawlawi Jalali, focusing on broader humanitarian and healthcare assistance to Afghanistan. India reiterated its commitment to providing continued support, including the long-term supply of essential medicines, technical expertise, and healthcare aid to strengthen the Afghan health system.

These engagements form part of ongoing efforts by India to deepen bilateral cooperation in health and traditional medicine and to contribute to capacity building, sustainable healthcare delivery, and the promotion of culturally rooted medical practices in Afghanistan.
