Bayosthiti AI and Narayana Health Collaborate to Develop India’s First AI Models for Predicting Cardiovascular Disease

Published on

Bayosthiti AI, a healthcare and molecular diagnostics company powered by artificial intelligence, has partnered with Narayana Health to develop India’s first AI-based predictive models for cardiovascular disease in Indian patients.

The study will utilize transcriptomic data from over 12,000 participants at the Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Bengaluru. Using Bayosthiti’s proprietary Barcode-Integrated Reverse Transcription (BIRT) technology, researchers will perform comprehensive RNA sequencing from patient blood samples. This data will be used to train advanced AI models capable of detecting early molecular patterns linked to coronary artery disease (CAD)—even before abnormalities appear in traditional diagnostic tests.

Coronary artery disease affects nearly 65 million Indians, often developing earlier than in Western populations. However, most current diagnostic systems are based on European and American datasets, creating a “data gap” that limits the detection of early markers specific to South Asian populations, delaying diagnosis and treatment.

With over 60,000 cardiac procedures conducted annually, Narayana Health provides the large-scale clinical data needed to train and validate these AI models. Bayosthiti’s BIRT technology allows for cost-efficient, high-throughput RNA sequencing by processing multiple samples simultaneously, making large-scale genomic research both practical and affordable in India.

While conventional diagnostic methods rely on imaging or protein markers that detect disease after physical damage has occurred, RNA sequencing identifies real-time cellular changes, offering the potential for early detection and intervention before structural damage sets in.

The initiative aims to enable AI systems to recognize disease signatures from millions of RNA expressions, similar to how language models learn from vast text datasets. This approach can detect molecular shifts that precede heart attacks with a level of accuracy comparable to invasive or imaging-based gold standards.

The partnership underscores how AI-driven genomics is transforming healthcare from reactive treatment to proactive prevention. By developing solutions rooted in Indian data, this collaboration seeks to build the foundation for personalized and preventive medicine—designed by Indians, for Indians.
