Union Health Minister JP Nadda held a focused meeting with Members of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh at Madhya Pradesh Bhawan as part of a series of state‑level interactions to accelerate the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, India’s mission to eliminate tuberculosis.
This dialogue follows similar engagements with MPs from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Union Ministers Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Anupriya Patel and Durgadas Uikey were also present along with the parliamentarians.
The meeting underscored the role of elected representatives in driving constituency‑level action, promoting cross‑party collaboration and strengthening community mobilisation for TB elimination. Shri Nadda highlighted India’s progress in combating tuberculosis, noting data from the WHO Global TB Report 2025 that showed a 21 per cent reduction in TB incidence between 2015 and 2024, which is nearly double the global average decline, and a 25 per cent reduction in TB‑related deaths.
India has achieved a 90 per cent treatment success rate, higher than the global average of 88 per cent. These gains were attributed to sustained political leadership, strong programme implementation and active public participation under the Jan Andolan initiative.
Participants discussed that Jan Andolan remains central to the TB elimination strategy, emphasising continued community mobilisation, awareness campaigns and comprehensive psychosocial support for patients and families. The meeting also drew attention to intensified community‑based screening in Madhya Pradesh, including in tribal and hard‑to‑reach areas, improved programme outreach, and enhanced collaboration with the private healthcare sector.
Advanced diagnostic tools such as AI‑enabled chest X‑rays, mobile diagnostic vans and NAAT (nucleic acid amplification test) machines have been scaled up, and enhanced ₹1,000 monthly nutritional support under the Ni‑kshay Poshan Yojana is being provided to TB patients to support treatment outcomes. The National Health Mission’s diagnostic network now includes over 9,300 NAAT machines, ensuring coverage across all blocks in the country.
MPs from Madhya Pradesh reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen efforts under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. They pledged to promote Ni‑kshay Shivirs for early detection, including among people without symptoms, ensure effective functioning of district‑level TB services and actively engage Ni‑kshay Mitras, MYBharat volunteers and Panchayati Raj Institutions to provide comprehensive support to TB patients. MPs also committed to prioritising tuberculosis in DISHA meetings, visiting health facilities and engaging directly with patients to address challenges at the grassroots level.
The TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, launched in December 2024 and now expanded nationwide, works in mission mode to ensure early detection, timely treatment initiation, tailored care for high‑risk patients, and comprehensive psychosocial support. Under the Jan Andolan, more than 2 lakh MYBharat volunteers, over 6.7 lakh Ni‑kshay Mitras, and more than 30,000 elected representatives have joined efforts to support the national goal of achieving a TB‑Free India.
