Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Friday announced that the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, which provides free cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh per family, will be formally launched across the state on January 15.

Under the scheme, all 65 lakh families in Punjab will be eligible for cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals, irrespective of income, as long as they hold an Aadhaar card and a voter ID. The coverage includes secondary and tertiary care, with thousands of medical procedures included and beneficiaries able to access services across a growing network of public and private hospitals.

The state government signed an agreement with United India Insurance Company to administer part of the coverage, while the remainder will be managed through the Punjab State Health Agency. Enrolment for the scheme will be facilitated through Common Service Centres and dedicated health camps aimed at issuing health cards to beneficiaries.

This initiative aims to reduce out-of-pocket healthcare expenses and strengthen financial protection for families statewide, as Punjab moves toward comprehensive universal health coverage.
