A mobile medical unit initiative was launched in Gurugram on December 22 to expand access to healthcare services in rural and underserved areas of the district. The initiative was inaugurated from the office of the Chief Medical Officer and Civil Surgeon, Gurugram, and will initially operate in the Sohna and Pataudi development blocks.
The mobile medical units have been launched by the Health Department in collaboration with Population Services International India and Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company. Each unit is equipped with doctors, healthcare staff and essential medical equipment to deliver services directly at the village level.
The units will follow a fixed route chart and regularly visit identified villages to provide medical consultations, screening for common illnesses and referral services when required. Services will include screening for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and anaemia, maternal and child health counselling, assistance in the creation of Ayushman Bharat Health Account IDs and basic outpatient care. Priority will be given to villages with limited access to healthcare facilities.
The programme also includes health awareness activities, regular health camps and community level outreach on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, nutrition, hygiene, menstrual health management and prevention of non communicable diseases. Public information efforts will be undertaken to ensure villagers are aware of the schedules and services offered by the mobile units.
Chief Medical Officer and Civil Surgeon Dr Alka Singh highlighted the vision that no one should be deprived of medical services. The initiative is expected to strengthen the district’s primary healthcare delivery system by bringing essential medical services closer to communities in need.
