During the pan-India CPR Awareness Week, a total of 6,06,374 citizens received training in the lifesaving Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) technique.

CPR is a critical emergency procedure that can significantly improve survival rates in cases of cardiac arrest.

Organised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from October 13 to 17, the awareness week aimed to educate citizens about the importance of early bystander intervention during cardiac arrests and other medical emergencies.

Despite its proven effectiveness, bystander CPR rates in India remain below global standards. This initiative sought to address the gap by promoting widespread CPR training, awareness, and readiness among diverse population groups.

A variety of activities were conducted throughout the week to ensure maximum participation and engagement. Special training sessions were also held for central government employees, CISF personnel, housekeeping staff, and officials from various ministries.

CPR combines chest compressions at a rate of 100 per minute with rescue breathing to maintain blood flow and oxygen supply to the brain and vital organs until professional medical help arrives.
