In a major health initiative, Maharashtra will carry out over one lakh cataract surgeries as part of a two-week campaign marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday on September 17.

State president Ravindra Chavan announced on Tuesday that the drive, running from September 17 to October 2, will focus on providing comprehensive eye care. It will include eye check-ups for at least 10 lakh individuals and the distribution of spectacles to those in need.

Chavan said, “This initiative is a service-oriented effort to strengthen connections with the community.” He highlighted that the campaign will be carried out in collaboration with NGOs, social groups, and various other organizations.

In addition to eye care services, blood donation camps will be held across the state, with 17 special programs planned to boost community participation.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been closely coordinating with state ministers and local leaders to ensure the smooth execution of these events.
