

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) submitted affidavits for their actions to curb air pollution in the state to the Mumbai High Court. The Mumbai High Court has advised citizens to emphasis on ways to improve air quality in metropolitan areas. Ways and measures have been addressed to the public amid an alarming rise in air pollution.
The consortium of developers’ application has been denied by the bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekar and Gautam Ankhad.
As per the affidavit submitted to the Mumbai High Court, sensor integration, issuance of stop-work notices for works under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), transition of bakeries to cleaner fuel, deployment of electric buses, dust mitigation, and operation of construction and demolition waste processing facilities are being carried out.
The High Court has ordered a committee to survey construction sites. The committee was formed on November 28. Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), the Public Health Department, and two advocates are part of this committee.
From December 6 to 13, the committee visited areas of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai with ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants. The panel’s report will be submitted to the Mumbai High Court this week. The HC has demanded accountability and solutions to curb the increasing AQI in Mumbai. Further directions will be given after analyzing the committee’s results.
Citizens’ protests over air pollution have spurred organizations and the government to take action to control the increasing AQI.
