Haryana has intensified its HIV surveillance and treatment outreach during the ongoing financial year, screening 12.4 lakh people between April 2025 and January 2026. Of those tested, 5,877 individuals were found to be HIV positive, according to official data reported by Press Trust of India.

Testing is being conducted through a statewide network of 104 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTCs), including mobile units that provide free and confidential services. The screening drive also covers antenatal care: over 5.65 lakh pregnant women were tested during the period, with 613 identified as HIV positive and linked to treatment services to prevent mother-to-child transmission.

Treatment access has been expanded through 24 Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) centres across major districts including Rohtak, Gurugram, Faridabad, Karnal, Hisar, Ambala and Nuh. Thirteen of these ART centres are located within government medical colleges to improve accessibility. In addition, link ART centres and integrated ART facilities support decentralised drug distribution and follow-up care. At present, 40,851 people living with HIV are receiving ART across the state.

Haryana also continues to implement a monthly financial assistance scheme for eligible people living with HIV, providing ₹2,250 per beneficiary. Since the scheme’s launch in December 2021, ₹54.3 crore has been disbursed.

Beyond testing and treatment, the state operates 31 designated sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinics offering counselling and free medication. Targeted intervention projects are being implemented in collaboration with non-governmental organisations and Red Cross units to reach high-risk groups, including sex workers, men who have sex with men, injecting drug users, truckers and migrant labourers. Opioid substitution therapy services are also functional through 12 centres and satellite units to support individuals with opioid dependence.

The expanded screening and treatment network reflects Haryana’s broader strategy of early detection, decentralised care and social support to strengthen HIV control efforts in the state.
