At the 2nd Edition of the International Conference on Dentistry and Awards 2025, the panel discussion on “Changing Dynamics of Customer Expectations & Evolution of DSOs in the Indian Scenario” explored how technology, empathy, and organizational models are reshaping dental care in India. Moderated by Dr. Anmol S. Kalha, Director and Advisor (Dentistry) at Max Healthcare and Co-Founder of Medeva Knowledge Systems, the session brought together industry leaders to discuss how Dental Service Organizations (DSOs) and digital innovation are driving a more structured, patient-centric future for Indian dentistry.

Maj Gen (Dr) Subrata Roy (Retd), Former Professor (Delhi University), Zonal Clinical Head, South Delhi 2,Clove Dental said, “I’m a periodontologist who served in the Indian Army Dental Corps for over 36 years. Soon after my retirement, I joined Clove Dental, encouraged by Lt. Gen. Vimal Arora, who inspired me to contribute to building a more organized and professional dental ecosystem in India.

Having spent my career as both a clinician and teacher, I believe that the strength of our profession lies in skilled, ethical, and well-trained practitioners. Today, I see a major shift with the emergence of Dental Service Organizations (DSOs), which are transforming how dentistry operates in India.

Globally recognized and well-established in countries like those in Europe, DSOs bring structure, standardization, and accountability to the field. At Clove Dental, we conduct over 1,500 training sessions every month, ensuring continuous upskilling and professional growth for our teams.

Equally important, DSOs have introduced fair, transparent remuneration systems that benefit both dentists and dental assistants, aligning pay scales with national benchmarks.

I truly believe DSOs are a game-changer — creating a future where Indian dentistry is more organized, equitable, and globally aligned.”

Dr Chandan Jain, Founder & CEO, iCube Dental stated, “I believe it’s a combination of technology, convenience, and human connection. All three are essential, but if I had to rank them, technology now leads the way.

Patients today value comfort, speed, and predictability. Just as they use delivery apps like Zepto or Blinkit for convenience, they expect the same efficiency in healthcare. They don’t want multiple visits for the same procedure — they want faster, more precise outcomes.

That’s why we’ve integrated CBCT, CAD/CAM, and intraoral scanning across all our centers. Through digital planning and simulations, patients can visualize results even before treatment begins, reducing anxiety and increasing satisfaction.

In fact, convenience becomes a byproduct of technology — when digital tools are used effectively, the entire dental experience feels smoother and more patient-friendly.

Yet, no matter how advanced we become, the human touch remains irreplaceable. Dentists must communicate with empathy, clarity, and patience. Dentistry may be a business, but at its heart, it’s about trust, comfort, and care.

Modern dentistry thrives when technology and empathy work together.”

Dr. Amrit Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Director, Dental, HCL Healthcare said, “At HCL Healthcare, we’re redefining dentistry through a personalized and holistic approach rather than the traditional “drill and fill” model. When patients visit us, our doctors review their electronic health records—including systemic and psychological factors—to treat the root cause, not just the symptom.

With standardized screening, hygiene, and care protocols across all centers, and teams trained to work with medical specialists, we ensure truly integrated healthcare.

As technology and AI advance, data standardization remains key to progress. Having served over 100,000 customers annually for the past eight years, our focus remains on improving lives through comprehensive, connected, and preventive care.”

Shammi Gumbhir, Managing Director, Unicorn Denmart Ltd stated, “Dentistry has evolved from manual equipment to fully digital workflows. Advanced tools like CBCTs, intraoral scanners, and AI-based software have made treatments faster, more accurate, and transparent—helping patients understand and trust their care.

At Unicorn, we focus on bringing the right, affordable technologies to India, backed by expert training and strong after-sales support. With patients now more informed than ever, adopting digital dentistry is no longer a choice—it’s a necessity for better precision, efficiency, and patient confidence.”
